Neighbors Helping Neighbors
About UsNeighbors Helping Neighbors Rhode Island (NHNRI) provides home repairs at no cost to low-income qualifying homeowners in South County, RI, enabling families to safely remain in their homes.
NHNRI was established in 2012 as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. We are a 100% volunteer organization without paid staff, administrators, or physical office space of our own, so we work in the most cost-effective way possible, operating with an absolute minimum of overhead costs. Because we have low-overhead expenses, funds raised are predominantly applied to the cost of building materials, necessary liability insurance for our volunteers and Board of Directors, and hiring licensed contractors when required. |
HistoryNHNRI was first envisioned in 2011 by am group of volunteers from St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Charlestown, RI who saw that many of their neighbors were having trouble maintaining a home.
The work has changed over time from volunteer labor to professional contractor labor. This was driven in part by the COVID pandemic, but also to satisfy requirements of the towns in which we work to use licensed contractors and obtaining building permits. |
